About the Challenge

What is The Chocolate Block Challenge?
The Chocolate Block Challenge is a unique way of raising funds for Western Australians living with dementia and their carers. The goal of the challenge is to survive without chocolate for the 31 days of March. During the challenge, we encourage you to raise funds on behalf of those living with dementia.
Where does the money raised go?
There are more than 41,630 Western Australians living with dementia and there is no cure. Often people live for many years with dementia but no one will survive it.

We believe that everyone deserves to be themselves, to do the things that are important to them, to have freedom and safety, to belong and have meaning and most of all to see joy in their lives as much as they can until the end of their days.

You contributions ensure we can continue to provide person-centred care, support and services, which include;
  • Respite houses that are safe places to turn to and spend time
  • Special programs that encourage belonging and joy
  • Raising awareness and reducing stigma by changing negative opinions many have about those living with dementia

What you give helps us all to stand by those living with dementia.

We appreciate your commitment to giving to those living with dementia. Do your best, your commitment is admirable and so many will benefit from your efforts. Hang in there.
WHAT IS A CHOCOLATE CHEAT
If the cravings become too much to handle, you can always purchase a sneaky Chocolate Cheat. For a donation to your fundraising page you can have a day off from your challenge.
IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT
All participants must be 18 year and over, or have permission from a parent or guardian.
I DON'T LIKE CHOCOLATE. CAN I STILL JOIN THE CHALLENGE?

MyCause and Donations

WHAT IS MYCAUSE? HOW DO I USE IT?
MyCause is an online fundraising platform. Your fundraising page will be automatically set up when you register for the challenge.

You can share the link to your page to your friends, family and colleagues so they can donate to you. Uploading a photo, setting a fundraising goal and writing a brief description explaining your reason for accepting The Chocolate Block Challenge is great way of raising more funds.
HOW DO I RECEIVE DONATIONS?
Once you have registered for The Chocolate Block Challenge and set up your Fundraising page, you can then direct people to your unique supporter page URL where they can make a donation through the secure payment gateway using a credit card.
ARE MY PERSONAL DETAILS SAFE AND SECURE?
Our payments are processed using MyCause.

Processing donations through this platform your credit card and personal details are encrypted using the latest industry standard SSL (Secure Socket Layer) 128 Bit encryption technology before being sent over the internet.

Your credit card number is removed from the online server and is only stored on a separate secure server by the payment gateway provider.
WHAT IF PEOPLE GIVE ME CASH DONATIONS?
We have a downloadable form available for people to print in order to send through cash donations.

Once you have collected your cash, please send a cheque for the total cash donation amount and the completed donation form to:

Alzheimer’s WA
PO Box 1509
SUBIACO WA 6904

Offline donations will show on your page within 10 days of receipt. Once we have received and processed your donations we will update your profile page to show the cash donations made.

We will post out a receipt to the donor.

Please do not send cash through the post.
